Refugio / South Bay Incident, Santa Barbara County, May 19, 2015
OSPR crews were among the first on-scene to a crude oil spill resulting from a ruptured pipeline near Refugio State Beach in Santa Barbara County. More than 100,000 gallons of crude discharged into the environment near Refugio State Beach. A Unified Command including OSPR leadership was established in Santa Barbara County, coordinating cleanup and recovery operations. As of July 27, 2015 operations continue with the focus shifting from cleanup to environmental restoration and natural resource damage assessment.
